Creating a Bamboo Screen

One of the best and most common uses of Slender Weavers Bamboo is planting to create a privacy screen. The fast growth rate and dense foliage combined with an ideal height and width to provide excellent coverage make Slender Weavers Bamboo the prefect choice if you want privacy fast.

For a nice dense privacy screen that provides full coverage with no gaps within 12-18 months, it is recommended that plants are spaced at 1 metre intervals centre to centre. For example, if you have a 10 metre length that requires screening, 10 plants would be ideal. This will provide a full screen whilst still reaching the species mature height of 6-8 metres.

If the screen is not required in any hurry and you are happy to wait for the Bamboo to grow, spacing can be increased to 1.5-2 metres.

Likewise, if you need more immediate screening for listing a house on the market for example, spacings can be reduced down to 700mm. Just keep in mind, reducing spacing below 1 metre generally results in a reduced overall height due to the plants being suppressed by the neighbouring plant.

The overall height of your Bamboo screen can kept at any height you wish. Pruning is a once per year job and more details can be found at Maintenance. Left alone without pruning, expect a screen height of approximately 6-8 metres.
